Thrifty Friends: Jennifer and Jacklyn, Founders of Songbird Artistry
Hey hey, Thrifters!
I recently visted to Songbird Artistry, a craft and antique shop located on 4316 Penn Ave Pittsburgh, PA 15224. They had so many cute, unique finds at their shop. I’m so excited to share their story!
Songbird Artistry opened it’s doors in May 2016. Jennifer Orefice, Jacklyn Orefice and their mom, Debbie Jacknin, opened their stores to sell handmade items; vintage finds and holds classes and events in the community. Jennifer makes jewelry, knitted & crochet items, screen printed apparel, glass mosaics and other accessories. Jacklyn is a thrifting guru. She finds unique finds and resells the items at the store. Some of her finds include antique magazines, suitcases, telephones, clothes and accessories. They also sell their friend's handmade items such as pillows and handmade body butter.
Jacklyn loves to find cool unique finds because “You never know when you need to dress up.” Along with selling handmade, and antique items they host theme birthday parties. There, the party guest can dress up and be whoever they desire to be. They've hosted Harry Potter themed parties, superhero parties and game nights. And on July 22rd they are hosting a 90s party. In addition, they teach craft classes at the store too. This allows people of all ages to experience their store and enjoy the space.
When Jacklyn and Jennifer are not selling in the store they participate as vendors at flea markets and craft shows. I recently went to Neighborhood Flea to see their set up. Neighborhood flea is every second Sunday of the month here in Pittsburgh. This is a great way for them to show off the cool finds they have in the store to new potential customers. As many thrift shoppers know, sometimes when you find a great find it’s hard to let go. But at the end of the day “ It’s about giving your finds new homes.” Another benefit Jennifer and Jacklyn have by participating as vendors is that they get to socialize with new folks and make new friends.
They typically find their finds at thrift stores, thrift outlets, estate sales, and curb treasure hunting. They are able to find great deals for great prices. So when they resale the items they price them affordably. Typically when you see antiques or vintage items you think they are too expensive. But Jacqueline and Jennifer believe antiques can be affordable and should be available for everyone. To reach everyone they know e-commerce is important and will help their business grow. So they created a Etsy online store for Songbird Artistry. Check out their Etsy site - HERE.
So what’s next for Songbird Artistry? This summer they have a full schedule. They will have a 90s party on July 22rd, an anniversary party on May 27th, a clothes swap and many more events. To see the entire schedule go - HERE. They will also be vendors are various shows throughout the summer. Jacklyn and Jennifer also plan on collaborating with the Free Store in Braddock to collect backpacks, school supplies and clothes for children for next school year.
These ladies are making a name for themselves in the craft and vintage resale community. They are also opening their doors for people of all ages to enjoy fun activities and connect with one another. I’m so grateful I was able to cross paths with these awesome women ☺ They inspire me and I hope they inspire you too!
